Varsity donates KSh400,000 to boost education

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Mount Kenya University (MKU) donated KSh400,000 to various schools during the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a Education day last week.

MKU Founder and Board of Trustees Chairman Simon N. Gicharu, CBS, gave KSh200,000 to the Catholic Diocese and the rest to Best Performing Schools in the various categories.

Among the beneficiaries were Kerugoya School for the Deaf and Kiruguyu Special School. Both are for children with special needs. “I’m delighted to see so much talent among our young people,” enthused Mr Gicharu. “MKU will continually support you to ensure you exploit your potential.

Murang’a County Deputy Governor Gakure Monyo praised MKU for bringing affordable, quality high education to people in the Counties. He said the County government will work hand in hand with the university to ensure more young people pursue higher education as a means of emancipation from poverty.

The event whose theme was “Strengthening the Family Unit for Better Education” involved more than 100 secondary and primary schools from Murang’a and Kirinyaga counties. Mr Gicharu was the chief guest.
