Mount Kenya University school of business students have scooped second position in the recently concluded CFA Institute Research Challenge 2023/2024. MKU was competing to represent Kenya in the EMEA Sub-regional Competition. The challenge, which took place on 27th  February 2023, was also happening concurrently in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis and professional ethics. Each team was tested on their analytical, valuation, report writing, and presentation skills. They gain real-world experience as they assume the role of a research analyst.

Mount Kenya University managed to have two teams compete at the final round out of the three teams drawn from Thika and Nakuru campuses. Other Universities that participated includes; Strathmore University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kabarak University ,The Cooperative University of Kenya ,African Nazarene University, Pioneer International University and African Nazarene University.

Ms. Rose Masibili, the lead faculty support member for the team congratulates the students for their good performance; this was the first time the University was represented in the CFA research challenge. We also appreciate Nelson Kithinji (Thika) and Dr. Ruth Winnie (Nakuru Campus) who served as faculty advisors for the teams and the entire faculty members from the school led by the dean Dr. Phelistas Njeru for their valuable teaching and mentorship.

Mount Kenya University exposes students to practical opportunities, which give them an opportunity to identify their weakness and sharpen their skills ready for the job market. The CFA challenge exposed students to understanding the industry landscape through industry research. The challenge focused on Safaricom PLC for this year’s challenge.
