Equip Africa Institute, the executive training arm of Mount Kenya University, will receive US$ 1 million (Ksh88million) from the Royal Danish Embassy to develop executive training programmes. The money, which is a Danish International Development Agency Business Partnership grant, will support the knowledge transfer of the Institute’s EMBA programme. At the
same time, MKU has signed a memorandum of understanding with Copenhagen Business School-Executive of Copenhagen, Demark. The deal, which was signed by the university’s Chairman and Founder Simon N. Gicharu on behalf of Equip Africa Institute, will see the two institutions share best practices on professional training, among others.
During the signing of the MoU in Copenhagen, Demark, CBS-E was represented by Kim Pedersen, Program Director, and Mogens Bjerre, Associate Professor. “This MoU accentuates Equip Africa’s reputation as the best provider of executive training courses in East Africa,” said Mr. Gicharu. “We will continue developing capacity among individuals, mostly middle-to-high level managers, governments and nongovernmental organizations.”
Equip Africa Institute’s mission is to impart skills, competencies and expertise that enhance self-development and continually breed creativity and innovation. Dr. Jane Njuru, Director, Equip Africa Institute, said the MoU asserts the Institute’s reputation as the best for executive training. Equip Africa Institute is offering an Executive MBA (EMBA) programme in partnership with CBS-E. “This programme is a game changer for how African business leaders develop personal leadership skills and build
competitive organizations,” said Dr. Njuru. The EMBA model has three modules, namely Post Graduate Diploma (on Leadership, Business and Competition), Post Graduate Diploma (on International Business Expansion) and Executive MBA Degree (Leading Business Development). Executives who have undertaken this EMBA programme are full of praise. “I made a decision to improve myself and the company I work for, so I looked for the right intellectual challenge that would equip and offer me the right innovation and leadership insights,” said Abdallah Ngovi, Head of Corporate Banking, Gulf African Bank. “The MKU-EMBA program has offered me the best in class management practices and strategies to sustain a competitive edge. It’s learning from real life.” Anna Nyimbo, the Managing Director of Cartrack Tanzania Ltd. said the decision to
take up the program was one of the best she has made in her life. “Realising that organizations are operated through good leadership has been the highlight of this program. No other program can enlighten you in such skills.” “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, but the speed is determined by what you do. The MKU-EMBA places emphasis on a problem-based approach coupled with highly knowledgeable and industry-sharpened faculty, ensuring you study for improved on-the-job performance,” said Brian Sing’ora, managing director, Inventure
-Scaling the Heights of Education Africa Ltd. “Gone are the days you went to study for a certificate, now study for competence.”
During the Denmark tour, the Equip Africa Institute team, who included the MKU Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic & Research Affairs Bibiane Waiganjo and Linda Mwangi (Program Coordinator, Equip Africa Institute), also visited the Danish Broadcasting Corporation.
