A research group from Mount Kenya University , Kenya’s largest private university , visited Ehime Prefecture on the 22nd and has begun joint research aimed at eradicating malaria at the Ehime University Proteoscience Center. Using wheat cell-free protein synthesis technology originally developed by Ehime University, we will work on developing an antibody test to identify asymptomatic patients.
Mount Kenya University has its main campus in Thika, about 45 kilometers northeast of the capital Nairobi, and is conducting research on early diagnosis and treatment of malaria. The Center entered into an academic exchange agreement with Mount Kenya University in May 2023. This time, we invited a total of six people, including teachers, researchers, and graduate students. The purpose of the joint research is to establish a serodiagnostic method that can detect asymptomatic infected individuals. Using the center’s wheat cell-free protein synthesis technology, the company will be able to easily and quickly test for antibodies that develop in the body of malaria patients by measuring antibodies and analyzing data.
