Enroll for Certified Associate in Project Management and Citizen Developer courseware

Nairobi, Kenya, 24 February 2022: One of the top 10 universities in the country and amongst the top 150 on the continent, Mount Kenya University was charted to offer PMI’s Certified Associate in Project Management and Citizen Developer courseware to its students from March. The university’s professorial team will lead the training and instruction with exams administered by PMI, the world’s leading association for the project management profession.

Through the University, students enrolled for the CAPM will become eligible for PMI membership. The membership opens a host of learning opportunities including free resources like webinars and events, over 1000+ tools and templates, a digital copy of the PMBOK Guide as well as access to the 450,000+ strong network of project professionals globally. Members also qualify for special rates on PMI’s courseware and exams fees.

PMI’s global networks are dedicated to improving project skills through knowledge sharing and mentoring at all levels. PMI has 19 local Chapters in Africa that contribute to this effort with PMI Kenya Chapter being amongst the top 5.

CAPM is a foundational credential and is based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) Guide, a benchmark resource of global standards for project management. It is tailored for young professionals with limited project experience. Students can also take the exam provided they have completed 23 hours of project management education.

PMI’s Citizen Developer credential empowers end-users to create their own solutions, a need further accelerated by the tsunami of digital transformation being experienced during the pandemic. Through the platform-agnostic educational resource end users learn to build custom apps and bespoke tech solutions by using intuitive “low-code” and “no-code” tools.

George Asamani, Business Development Leader, Africa for PMI says, “Students come to universities hoping that a degree will catapult their careers. However, post pandemic realities have made things less certain.”

First class started on 14th March 2022 in MKU Main campus, Thika and Nakuru Campus. Dr. Christopher Mutembei, Director, Centre for Professional Development, MKU says, “The new courseware is a step change in our efforts to find ways to impart specific skills and competencies the new world of work demands. How do you distinguish yourself from some 85,000 students who graduate each year in Kenya? Employability is key.”

“It is for that reason we wanted to partner with PMI. The collaboration is a strong endorsement of MKU’s quality of training and relevance.”

PMI believes that the future of work is project-based, and teams will deliver on values and strategic objectives. Careers will increasingly revolve around a portfolio of projects rather than a bulleted list of static job responsibilities. There will be more exploratory projects requiring different methodologies and frameworks requiring project managers to adopt the most appropriate methodology, management style, and thinking.

Globally, the value of project-oriented economic activity over the decade is likely to reach $20 trillion. PMI’s Talent Gap report predicts that the number of jobs requiring project management-oriented skills from economic growth and retirement rates will create the global need for 25 million new project professionals by 2030, meaning 2.3 million project managers will need to fill project management-oriented roles every year.

This shortage of talent may pose considerable risk to organisations as they rely on project teams to implement strategic initiatives on time and on budget.

During this decade, Sub-Saharan Africa will witness a 40% growth with project management-oriented employment opportunities considered as the largest globally. To take advantage of the new project economy, in part fuelled by global commitments to “build back better” and in-country efforts to spur economic growth, companies will need a new approach to project management and a fast recipe for skills development.

“Enduring partnerships with universities are key to the bench strength of employable talent In MKU, we have a partner who can produce graduates with appropriate skills and ways of thinking to fully participate in The Project Economy,” adds Asamani in conclusion.
