MKU scoops grant worth Kshs. 11 Million
Mount Kenya University staff, Prof. Peter Wanderi and Mr. Bonface Malala have won a grant worth Ksh 11 million in collaboration with Leuphana University (Germany), University of Venda (South Africa) and Godfrey Okoye University (Nigeria).
The project is a 3-year project (2024-2026) funded by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Mr Bonface Malala joined other project members on 22nd April 2024 for a one-week STEP-S Kick-off workshop at Leuphana University, Germany.
The aim of the workshop was to discuss how to implement the STEP-S project across the partner universities and how to support. Discussions during the workshop was aimed at ensuring smooth and successful implementation of STEP-S project included; planning of time schedule for 2024, developing adaptation ideas for STEP-S materials for partner institution/target group, sharing of research idea, monitoring and evaluation and planning on inclusion of cooperation with extra-university partners as well as regional conferences.
The focus of STEP sustainability (STEP-S) project is to offer new sustainable entrepreneurship co-curriculum courses that are rooted in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to both undergraduate and postgraduate students of partner universities.
The project will be implemented through coaching, mentoring, and internship programmes in collaboration with industries/other international partners who will offer hands-on experience to beneficiaries.
Leuphana University is the grant administering institution tasked with undertaking overall responsibility of coordination/implementation/grant management as well as spearheading the research component of the project among partner institutions.
Mount Kenya University (MKU), University of Venda (UOV) and Godfrey Okoye University (GOU) will be tasked with training undergraduate students, postgraduate students and secondary/tertiary students respectively and hosting research workshops within the project period
