GDC and Mount Kenya University (MKU) will collaborate through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework to boost research and development.
Speaking during the launch of MKU’s multi-complex science laboratories in Nakuru, the GDC Managing Director & CEO Dr. Silas Simiyu said the two institutions will soon form a special committee to expedite the collaboration process.
Dr. Simiyu was the Chief Guest. He also gave a public lecture.
“We are ready to partner with you in this venture. Let the two parties form a committee so that we can discuss key and relevant areas of collaboration,” Dr. Simiyu advised.

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes, are the leading cause of mortality in the world. This invisible epidemic is an under-appreciated cause of poverty and hinders the economic development of many countries. The burden is growing - the number of people, families and communities afflicted is increasing. To strengthen collaborative research with other research institutions, the Directorate is in the process of establishing collaborations with institutions such as Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) to complement the available research infrastructure. Furthermore, the County Government of Kiambu (COKIA) and MKU came together to establish the County Health Research Forum and to strengthen University Ethical Review Committee. The two entities are holding discussions aimed at establishing a Cancer Registry for the Kiambu County to be hosted by Mount Kenya University.
