
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Deogratius Jaganyi, represented Mount Kenya University and Mount Kigali University during TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION – African Universities Summit that took place in Kigali, Rwanda between 18th and 20th March 2025. Mount Kigali University, Rwanda and Mount Kenya University, Kenya were represented jointly by the Vice-Chancellor, MKU Kenya Prof Deogratius Jaganyi, accompanied by Prof Peter Wanderi, Principal, Corporate Services, Marketing, Communication and Alumni Relations, as well as a team of marketing /exhibitors led by Director, Corporate Affairs and Communication, Boniface Murigi and a team from MKU Rwanda.
The conference Theme was “United Leadership: Harnessing African Education for Sustainable Growth.” Key engagement between MKU Team and the delegates were well recorded. Among these was the signing of the Letter of Intent ( LOI)/Expression of Interest (EOI) between MKU- Kenya and MKU- Rwanda represented by Prof Jaganyi that was signed with the Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University (PSAU) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). This agreement focuses on wide areas of interest including Research and Innovation, Capacity Building, Policy Advocacy and Knowledge Exchange, Community Engagement and Outreach, Innovation and Entrepreneurship as well as Governance and Over sight.

The LOI/EOI was signed jointly by Prof Jaganyi, Vice Chancellor MKU, Kenya also representing Vice Chancellor MKU, Rwanda and Prof Rayed Alyousef, Vice-President Research and Postgraduate Studies, (PSAU), during the conference, on 19th March 2025. MKU attended a round table meeting organized by PSAU’s team. During that Round Table meeting, Prof Jaganyi asked for a clarification on PSAU’s membership with United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) as he also invited PSAU to join Mount Kenya University UNAI SDG9 Hub group of universities chaired by MKU.

Some of the delegates attending Times Higher Education ( THE) Conference at the Kigali /Convention Center Rwanda between 18th and 20th March 2025 who were hosted in partnership Round Table discussion by PSAU. The Uganda’s Makerere University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Barnabas, Nawangwe was among the TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION Delegates at Kigali Convention Center (Rwanda) and who was also among thos who attended the PSAU Round Table partnerships discussion. At a later point, the two Vice-Chancellors met and exchanged ideas on ways of strengthening MKU- Makerere University partnership activities. Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, Vice- Chancellor Makerere University appreciated to have served as the Guest Speaker at the MKU’S past Graduation Ceremony
