Mount Kenya University unveils ultra-modern Student Center

Mount Kenya University (MKU) has unveiled a ultra-modern Student Center at Thika Main Campus. The Centre is a multi-million-shilling upgrade of the previous structure which was constructed about a decade ago. It has more recreational and leisure facilities for students, and is one of its kind among universities in Kenya.

The newly refurbished (STC), a modernized hub designed to enhance the student experience. The upgrade marks a significant transformation from the previous dull structure, offering a vibrant space for both academic and social activities. The student center is nestled between Chancellors Tower (CT) and male hostels, making it easily accessible to the students.

At the center of this monumental building is a large area for students’ activities and ceremonies marked by a waterfall fountain depicting flow of education. The waterfall area has photogenic benches where students can relax and unwind.

Prof. Gicharu also handed over the newly constructed mosque to the MKU Muslim community lead my their chaplain Dr. Hamisi. A newly constructed mosque, offers Muslim students a stylish and dedicated space for worship.

Below is a breakdown of the facilities, services available at student center.

Ground Floor

The ground floor is a lively recreational center housing various amenities, including an E-sports center, cafeteria, cyber café, salon, barbershop and supermarket. A state-of-the-art gym and a university photography centre are also available, ensuring students have access to essential services and leisure activities under one roof.

1st Floor – Student Services

1st  floor is dedicated to student services, featuring offices for the Principal of Students Welfare, Dean of Students, Deputy Dean of Students, and the University Chaplain. This floor also houses the Student Boardroom, Counselor, International Students Coordinator, and Sports Store. MKUSA officials, Clubs & Associations, the Sign Language Interpreter, Sports Coordinator, MAMKU, and both Catholic and Muslim chaplains have their offices here.

2nd Floor – Accommodation

The 2nd floor offers 14 guest rooms for hosting international guests, researchers, and participants in student exchange programs. These well-furnished rooms provide a comfortable stay for visitors and staff alike.

Rooftop – Scenic Events Space

The rooftop offers a breathtaking view of the MKU environment and serves as a versatile space for hosting various student events, providing a perfect blend of leisure and community interaction.

Additional Facilities

Fountain:

Refurbished, the new fountain located at the foot of the CT grounds, complemented by newly installed seating, providing a serene environment for relaxation.

Laundry Section:

Laundry services are available for students and staff, ensuring convenience for their daily needs. the facility offers services hotels in the environs.
