Conference: DAAD-Project Leader Conference

Mount Kenya University was represented at the DAAD-Project Leader Conference “Educating tomorrow’s leaders to pioneer sustainable development – the role of academia” by Mr Bonface Joel Malala (Directorate of Grants and Development) and Dr Evans Mwiti (School of Business Studies). Mr Malala participated in the conference as a Co-investigator on the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) funded project titled “Sustainable Entrepreneurship Courses for Under- and Postgraduate students)”. This a collaborative project between Mount Kenya University (Kenya), Leuphana University of Luneburg (Germany), University of Venda (South Africa) and Godfrey Okoye University (Nigeria). Dr Mwiti is a Co-instigator on a project titles “Applied Research and Teaching for Sustainable Development in Africa (ART4DEV) which is also funded by the DAAD. This a collaborative project between Mount Kenya University (Kenya), Moi University (Kenya), Institute of Finance Management (Tanzania), University of Cape Coast (Ghana) and Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied sciences (Germany).
The aim of the conference was to bring DAAD cooperation projects that are being funded in Africa and to exchange ideas on various topics together with researchers/scholars. The two key areas discussed during the DAAD conference included;
- Partnership projects to strengthen teaching, research and knowledge transfer, and
- Educating tomorrow’s leaders to pioneer sustainable development – the role of academia.
The broad aim of the conference was to serve to strengthen institutional capacity building at partner HEIs to support the sustainable development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 agenda.
The conference brought together over 200 participants drawn across the world working on over 50 projects in Africa and sponsored by the DAAD. The conference provided great opportunity for networking among project leaders and opportunity for learning and exchange of ideas to improve current and future partnership projects.
