MKU Nairobi campus president’s award club constructs a science laboratory for Nyeri Main Prison inmates

he President’s Award Club Participants who are in their Gold Level of the Award Programme undertook their Residential Project at Nyeri G.K Prisons from Saturday 7th October to Wednesday 11th October 2017.The Project involved Constructing a Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) Laboratory for the Nyeri Main Prison Inmates who are undertaking Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) School Program.

This Project aims to broaden participants’ horizons through involvement with others in a residential setting. It offers Gold Award Participants unique experiences that truly broaden horizons and challenges their outlook. At the heart of the Residential Project is the undertaking of purposeful experience with people who are not their usual companions, working towards a common goal. It is hoped that the residential Project rewards Gold Award Participants with a sense of personal achievement, enhanced social connection with new and interesting people, and a truly life changing experience!

This Project was a unique one since the participants constructed, launched and handed over the science laboratory to the Officer in Charge-Nyeri Prisons (Patrick M.Aranduh-Assistant Commissioner of Prisons/County Prisons Commander-Nyeri).The inmates who are sitting for the KNEC Exams starting 30th October 2017 will be able to do their Science Practical Exams inside the Prisons Facility. Before then, they were been taken to Nyeri High School Science Laboratory on daily basis at a cost. But the Gold Award Participants of MKU Nairobi Campus P.A Club Residential Project came in hand to solve that problem once and for all.
