Mount Kenya University school of Education lecturer and researcher Dr. Joyce Gikandi has been given a special recognition award, the National Outstanding researcher in the social sciences, technology and innovations category during the Kenya National Research Festival 2024 which was held at the Edge Convention Centre. The research festival was conducted between 19th to the 23rd of August 2024.

The research festival was conducted under the theme “Research Partnerships and Collaborations for Socio-Economic Transformation.”
Many organizations including Mount Kenya University participated in the event where they exhibited their innovations and research. The team was led by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Deo JAGANYI who applauded the Dr. Gikandi for her outstanding performance in research and added that MKU has invested heavily into research infrastructural support.
Mount Kenya University innovations included the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machine, the herbal soap, automatic hydroponic system and the organic tomato sauce.
The event featured panel discussions and paper presentation by NRF funded researchers amongst them, there was Ms. Rachel and MKU Ph.D student who is also a researcher at the MKU Centre for Malaria elimination presented her research poster paper.
