Mount Kenya University School of Business and Economics in collaboration with The Yunus Centre jointly hosted the 10th Social Business Academic Conference (SBAC) from 4th to 6th November, 2021. This was an in-person and virtual interdisciplinary conference that globally attracted researchers, academics, and students to discuss academic papers, practitioner cases, and concept notes on innovative ideas on any issues related to social business. 

The conference was officially opened with opening remarks from Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus and Prof. Deogratius JAGANYI, MKU Vice-Chancellor.  Prof. Muhammad Yunus is a Bangladeshi social entrepreneur, banker, economist and civil society leader who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for founding the Grameen Bank and pioneering the concepts of microcredit and microfinance

Yunus Centre organizes annual conferences; this year’s conference was focused on the academic curriculum on social business and research opportunities with a special focus on the East African region. The conference entailed paper presentations from academicians all over the world, their presentations were organized in any of the following topics:

  1. Introduction to Yunus, Activities and Values, and relation to Africa region
  2. Innovative ideas (3ZEROs)
  3. Social Business Research in East and Southern Africa
  4. Youth Entrepreneurship and Social Business in Africa
  5. Youth Entrepreneurship and Social Business around the World
  6. Academic Collaboration for Social Business Research and Training
  7. Creating SB Leaders: Yunus SB Master’s Program and SB Academic Curriculum
  8. Social Business Research Journal

Mount Kenya University has started a campaign to have 3 Zero clubs at all its’ campuses as well as at the local communities. Together we shall in deed create a world of 3 Zeros.
