MKU Compliance with presidential public order no. 2 of 2021 on the coronavirus pandemic
In an address to the Nation on 26 March, 2021, H. E. President Uhuru Kenyatta gave a public order directive in the phase of surging 3 Wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic. In the said order, under Article 13 section XIII, the President directed an immediate suspension of all on-going physical learning save for candidates sitting for examinations and those in medical training.
Mount Kenya University (MKU) being among the institutions offering medical training in the College of Health Sciences , has embraced itself to enhance face-to-face delivery of the concerned programmes. Meanwhile, the University has transited all other programmes to the online delivery mode.
As the transition to the online platform for the ongoing classes is implemented, the University Management has put in place the necessary support systems to enhance access of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure by both students and lecturers. MKU has heavily invested in necessary ICT support systems with online connectivity and strong hotspots within the Campuses and Open Distance and Electronic Learning Centres.
There would, therefore, be no better time to allow students and staff to access the premises and benefit from the connectivity within the campuses while observing social distance and all other Ministry of Health COVID-19 preventive and containment protocols. The University has identified staff and students in the most vulnerable category for particular attention and support.
The University will observe compliance with the Presidential Public Order and ensure that students are fully supported to sit the scheduled examinations. In order to ensure quality of the examinations , all necessary measures of examinations administration have been put in place and academic staff engaged to adequately offer the essential services of examination invigilation while supporting all other students involved in the online teaching and learning. Students on internship will be equally supported and adequately supervised.
Library services are available to students and staff while observing necessary protocols with adjusted operational hours. However, the digital library is accessible 24/7 at eresources.mku.ac.ke portal.
As compliance with the Public Order is honored, the University fraternity will remain focused on the forthcoming 19th Graduation (Virtual) to be held on 6th August, 2021 and the online registration and orientation of new students in April and May intakes.
As we observe all the necessary safety measures of containment of the 3rd Wave of COVID-19 Pandemic, we continue supporting our University, our students, our president and our great nation, the Republic of Kenya.
