Mount Kenya University (MKU) celebrated a momentous occasion as it held its 26th Graduation Ceremony, marking the second graduation event of the year. With over 7,000 graduates stepping into the world as future job creators and professionals, the university reinforced its reputation as a leading institution for empowering global change-makers.
The ceremony, presided over by MKU Chancellor Prof. John J. Struthers, brought together a distinguished audience including the University Council, led by Chairman Dr. Vincent Gaitho, university management, international and local dignitaries, proud parents, and guardians.
A Global Perspective
Under the theme “Internationalization of University Education towards Development of a Competitive Global Workforce,” the graduation highlighted MKU’s efforts to provide students with an education that meets global standards. This theme resonates strongly as the university celebrates the fifth anniversary of its partnership with Roadstar, a U.S.-based company, which allows students to work while they study. Additionally, MKU’s ongoing contributions to the hospitality and tourism industries, particularly through the Kigali Paramount Hotel set to open in early 2025, were spotlighted as a testament to the institution’s role in regional economic growth.
Championing Innovation and Opportunities
In his address, MKU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Deogratius JAGANYI acknowledged the university’s key milestones, including successful international exchange programs and notable research and innovation achievements by students and staff. “We are committed to nurturing graduates who are well-prepared to compete and excel in a global workforce,” Prof. JAGANYI affirmed.
The event featured a keynote speech by Ambassador Eunice Kigenyi, Deputy High Commissioner of the Uganda High Commission in Nairobi. She applauded MKU’s vision of delivering world-class education and fostering global transformation. Amb. Kigenyi highlighted MKU’s initiatives, such as its partnerships with German organizations to facilitate nursing job placements for alumni in Germany and Austria, and its focus on giving students practical global exposure through various programs.
A Celebration of Excellence
The celebratory tone of the event was heightened by an announcement from MKU’s co-founder, who expressed gratitude to the university’s dedicated staff by introducing a token of appreciation for their relentless efforts in preparing graduates for the job market. The institution’s success was further validated by a recent CPS Kenya survey that ranked MKU graduates among the most employable in the region.
Looking Ahead
The vibrant event underscored the significance of December as a season of achievement and new beginnings. MKU’s ongoing commitment to innovation and global collaboration ensures its graduates are well-positioned to thrive in their careers.
As the graduates embark on their new journeys, they carry the torch of MKU’s mission to transform the world through education, research, and innovation.
The graduation was streamed live on TV47 and in Mount Kigali University formerly MKU Rwanda . Mount Kigali University received charter from the Rwanda Higher Education Council (HEC) hence gaining autonomy.
Congratulations to the Class of 2023! May your endeavors illuminate the path for future generations.
