Mount Kenya University joined 9 universities in Kenya and Germany to create entrepreneurial skills to Kenyan university students. The Universities are Bonn Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, Leuphana University, University of Leipzig, Wismar University of Applied Sciences and University of Saarland from Germany, Mount Kenya University, Kenyatta University, Karatina University, Chuka University and Dedan Kimathi University of Technology from Kenya.
Part of the training included idea camps with the most recent one conducted in Nov. 2021 where Students from Mount Kenya University and Kenyatta University were tackling an industrial challenge under the supervision of the German and Kenya trainers from Wismar University of Applied Sciences, MKU and KU. The idea camp was sponsored by DAAD & BMZ and is part of many CEPU activities that has been carried out since 2019 including the recently concluded international entrepreneurial universities conference.
In addition to above activities MKU CEPU program runs Student Training in Entrepreneurship Promotion (STEP) training where students are mentored on entrepreneurship. This process involves the students receiving a seed capital to start a business and they get to retain the profit after the training period and the seed capital passed on by another group.
The CEPU projects supports the Kenyan partner universities in their efforts to improve the employability of their graduates and to promote the knowledge transfer into society through a stronger professional and practical orientation of the courses offered as well as strong networking with their social and economic environment.
