Door opens for MKU nursing graduates to work in Germany, Austria

A language can be a passport to a world of opportunities. For students studying nursing at Mount Kenya University (MKU), German has become the language of the moment.

MKU offers German language lessons at its Centre for Professional Development (CPD). The language is a mandatory requirement for nursing students who aspire to take up opportunities in Germany.

And now, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has appointed an expert to support the language training at MKU.

The university has some ongoing projects with German’s Koblenz University of Applied Sciences. The seconding of a specialist to MKU is therefore a boost to the local university’s German language training capabilities.

MKU founder and chairman, Prof Simon Gicharu, is delighted by this development, emphasizing the advantages for MKU graduates.

“This will help many of our graduates to take advantage of the numerous opportunities available in Germany for Kenyan citizens,” he says.

He notes that this initiative will provide immense benefits to MKU graduates by opening up numerous opportunities for them in German-speaking countries.

Prof Gicharu also highlights the anticipated signing of a bilateral agreement between Kenya and Germany later this year, which is expected to further enhance prospects for MKU graduates in Germany.

MKU is also collaborating with Austrian health authorities and Lebenshilfe Tirol. Under this arrangement, Austria will annually integrate 40 MKU-trained nurses into Austrian hospitals and elderly care homes.

The recognition by the Austrian Government and the appointment of a DAAD language lecturer are significant endorsements of MKU’s commitment to excellence in education and international collaboration.
