In pursuit of defining its quality and ensuring that each member of the University fraternity is delivering quality service, the University decided to implement the ISO 9001:2008 standards. The process began in February 2012. Alpex Consulting Africa Limited (ACAL) were engaged as the consultants to facilitate the process. The process started by the sensitization of the top management and later the rest of the University staff. The process requires commitment of the university in terms of financial and human resources. To develop the Quality Management System (QMS), the university appointed members from each section of the university to be trained as the chief implementer. The entire team involved in developing the QMS comprised of seventy members drawn from all the university departments and campuses. In a five day workshop, the team developed the current Quality Management Manual that consist of the Quality Policy Statement, Quality Manual and procedures that will be used in running different processes of the University. The QMS was validated in the various divisions, directorates and sections of the university and the implementers agreed that the processes and procedures described in the Manual will be used to run different sections of the university. The event held on Friday, June 29, 2012 marked the beginning of implementing the Quality Management System of the university in preparation of the ISO 9001:2008 Certification. Each member of the university is therefore urged to familiarize with the process in their own sections and also understand the quality objectives of the university. It is therefore the expectation of the university management the each member of the university will work as team towards improving the quality of the services offered to our students and other clients of the university. |
