“Exploit the untapped ICT potential,” VC urges
Mount Kenya University Vice Chancellor Prof. Stanley Waudo has asked the government and stakeholders to exploit the untapped ICT potential in the country in a bid to generate education, knowledge and wealth in the country.
In a speech read on his behalf by his Deputy Prof. John Huria Nderitu during the opening ceremony of the international conference on emerging and future information communication technologies (ICEICT) at Safari Park Nairobi , (11/06/2014) Prof. Waudo said that MKU through e-learning and virtual learning was committed in ICT education.
He said this was meant to inculcate masses with the necessary skills, knowledge and competences to deal with the emerging and future information communication technologies. He said this would in turn create abundant knowledge that will be translated into wealth and job generation. Waudo said universities should engage in quality research, quality teaching and instructional activities and quality community outreach programme.
Addressing participants during the conference, guest Engineer James Rege who is MP for Rachuonyo in Nyanza said that the proposed introduction of laptops to primary schools pupils is the best idea this country can ever have.
