Department of Dental Technology

MKU is truly an institution in service of the African Community.  One of its key focuses is, therefore, the economic and social development of the East African region.  In its quest to promote knowledge and technology, it provides the market with a career-focused workforce.  It also aims at making a significant contribution to creating sustainable economic growth that will impact on the standard of living of all of the region’s people.
The education offered at the Department of Dental Sciences at MKU, with its entrepreneurial focus, opens up unlimited opportunities for students to become job creators, public servants and entrepreneurs.  This is established by creating prosperity through the stimulation of innovation and creative thinking.  This is facilitated by various equipment and state of the art dental laboratory.
MKU strives to be a leading UNIVERSITY, viewing the diversity of its staff, students and other stakeholders as strength to be nurtured in service of the country and the African continent.  The university is committed to ongoing transformation to make it even more responsive to the needs of Kenya and the continent as a whole.

MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF DENTAL SCIENCES
The mission of the Department of Dental Sciences is to partner with students in achieving academic excellence, providing the best oral health care and engaging in research, scholarship and creative endeavours to improve the health of the highly diverse populations in Africa and around the world.
In view of those commitments, the Department of Dental Sciences affirms its determination:
•    To provide outstanding educational programs to prepare Community Oral Health professionals, Dental Technologists, Clinical Researchers, Educators and to offer lifelong learning opportunities for the profession.
•    To offer high-quality state-of-the-art oral health care which includes health promotion, disease prevention and intervention and rehabilitation in oral healthcare delivery to meet changing global healthcare needs
•    To conduct research that generates and applies clinical knowledge and technology to health and disease and also promotes the transfer of technology to the dental care delivery system
•    To impact health globally using resources that will influence the healthcare beliefs of the public and thereby the knowledge, skills, values and beliefs of healthcare professionals.

VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF DENTAL SCIENCES
Dental Sciences vision is to become the dental institution in Kenya with the greatest impact on the health of society by:
•    Establishing new paradigms for practice
•    Leveraging the power of enlightened consumers to improve the practice of dentistry
•    Providing a destination for patients seeking the best care
•    Developing a nexus between MKU and the international dental community

-3 years working experience including one year internship and registered with a professional body.
- Direct Entry KCSE C+

Five (5) semesters Offered on Friday, Saturday & Sunday Ksh.80,000 per semester
DIPLOMA IN DENTAL TECHNOLOGY (DDT) SEPT. 2013 At least KCSE Mean grade C plain, C plain in Biology/Chemistry, C minus in either Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry. Nine (9) trimesters Full time Ksh.34,550 per trimester
DIPLOMA IN COMMUNITY ORAL HEALTH (DCOH) MAY 2014 At least KCSE Mean grade C plain, C plain in English/Kiswahili, C plain in Biology/Chemistry, C minus in either two of the following: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Home Science and Agriculture Nine (9) trimesters Full time Ksh.34,550 per trimester
