Introduction

The Course is intended to prepare trainees for future employment in the field of heavy current engineering.

The course is designed to equip trainees with the knowledge and skills to enable them work safely, accurately and efficiently in any heavy current establishments. The course is also intended to impart general knowledge so as to provide change the attitudes to enable the trainee contribute positively to the society

Aims of the Programme

  • At the end of the course the trainees should be able to: -
  • Understand both theoretical and practical aspects of electrical engineering
  • Understand specialized subjects in the field of power systems and industrial electronics
  • Solve problems of both a generalized and specific nature using theoretical and /or practical approach
  • Appreciate design procedures which encompass both hardware and/or software.
  • Build and test prototypes and develop knowledge to progress to a production stage
  • Use computer to program in high level language
  • Acquire safe working attitudes for any working environment
  • Modify existing systems to improve efficiency
  • Appreciate management and organizational problems in the field of heavy current

Entry Requirements

Trainees entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements: -

  1. Passed a relevant craft course.
  2. Passed KCSE with an average grade of C- , and a minimum grade of C- in each of the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Physical Science/Physical Science or Chemistry.
  3. An equivalent qualifications

Award of Certificate

On completion and satisfaction of the examining body by the trainee, the trainee shall be awarded a Diploma Certificate in Electrical Power Engineering
