Introduction to the Course

The craft course in Science Laboratory Technology is intended to equip the trainee with knowledge and operative skills necessary to support the work of professional in the science laboratory. The course prepares them to acquire gainful employment in laboratories within industries, scientific research and educational institutions. Industrial, medical and research laboratories. In addition, the course will impart general knowledge and entrepreneurial awareness to enable the trainee contributes positively to the society.

General Objectives of the Course

By the end of this course, the trainee should be able to:

  • Understand the principle underlying laboratory technique in relationship with science laboratories.
  • Set up various laboratory apparatus
  • Follow procedures correctly to carry out given tasks and obtain accurate results.
  • Operate a given laboratory equipment.
  • Use appropriate equipment and materials for a given task
  • Observe safety precautions in the science laboratory with respect to equipment and personnel.
  • Organize data and experimental results for easy interpretation
  • Use acquire knowledge and skills in problem solving

Admission Criteria

Trainees entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements:

  • Passed a relevant artisan course or
  • Passed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (K.C.S.E) with a mean grade of D and in addition a minimum grade of D in the following subjects; English, Mathematics, Physical Science, or Physics or Chemistry, Biological Science or Biology.
  • An approved equivalent qualification

Acceptance of trainees into training courses rests with the governing council of the institution.

On completion and satisfaction of the examining body by the trainee, the trainee shall be awarded a certificate in Science Laboratory Technology.
