Background
Business information technology is dynamic in order to be at the fore front in re shaping technologically the business information development practices
This Diploma in business information technology has been designed to deepen and broaden the students' knowledge and skills in business information technology and equip them with scientific and technical skills in preparation for the labour market as well as for further studies at degree level
Aim
The aim of this diploma course is to assist in achieving the manpower requirements of business industry in public and private sectors of the economy in the areas of computer programming software technological support , accounting, management, Multimedia, internet and web site development, just to mention but a few. The graduate of this diploma will also be prepared in knowledge and skills to be admitted in related undergraduate programmes of degree level
Rationale
a) The diploma course has been designed to recognize that its graduate will, inter alia provide business information technology that will
- Enable successful performance in business organization
- Integrate business organization levels and functions
- Strategize business organizational processes
b) It will also provide technical knowledge, skills and abilities to
- Solve technical problems in business information systems
- Apply technical concepts and data processing in the business entity and to conceptualize and systemize processes and systems in terms of business information technology
Aims and Objectives
Aim
The aim of the diploma course is to provide students with a wide range of technological skills required in the business industry.
Objectives
The programme objectives shall be to
i) Inculcate technical knowledge and skills to students to enable them meet the manpower requirements for business industry and for operators and technical support experts in business information technology
ii) Provide a flexible modular diploma course in business information technology to take advantage of the varied labour market needs.
Entry Requirements
Direct entry
For a student to be admitted into the Diploma in Business Technology, he/she should certify one of the following minimum requirements.
- The student must be a holder of a minimum aggregate grade of C in KCSE and grade C in Mathematics and English.
OR
- Division III in KCE with credit passes in mathematics and English
- The student credit pass and above in the certificate in the business information technology or equivalent qualification may be considered for admission.
Mature Entry Requirements
The mature age entry requirements are as stipulated below
- Minimum aggregate of C- or its equivalent
- Be at least with 25 years of age
- Have at least two years work experience in the field of study being sort
- Pass an entrance examination set and administered by the university.
