INTRODUCTION
The aspiration of Mt. Kenya University as an institution of higher learning is to inculcate the knowledge and skills in information technology at Diploma level to trainees. The diploma course in information technology is intended to provide students with a wide range of technical, theoretical and technological skills in information technology required by the industry. Purpose This Diploma in business information technology has been designed to deepen and broaden the students’ knowledge and skills in information technology and equip them with scientific and technical skills in preparation for the labour market as well as for further studies at degree level Aim The aim of this diploma course is to assist in achieving the manpower requirements of IT industry in public and private sectors of the economy in the areas of computer programming, software technology, networking, internet and web side development. The graduate of this diploma will also be prepared in knowledge and skills to be admitted in related undergraduate programmes in degree level Rationale a) The diploma course has been designed to recognize that its graduate will inter earlier provide information technology that will i) Enable successful performance in business organization ii) Integrate organization levels and functions iii) Strategize organizational processes b) It will also provide technical knowledge, skills and abilities to i) Solve technical problems in information systems ii) Apply technical concepts and data processing
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF DIPLOMA PROGRAMME Aim The aim of the diploma course is to provide students with a wide range of technological skills required in the industry. Objectives The programme objectives shall be to i) Inculcate technical knowledge and skills to students to enable them meet the manpower requirements for industry today for operators and technical support experts in information technology ii) Provide a flexible modular diploma course in information technology to take advantage of the varied labor market needs. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Direct entry For a student to be admitted into the diploma into the technology, he/she should certify one of the following minimum requirements. i) The student must be a holder of a minimum aggregate grade of C in KCSE and grade C- in Mathematics and English. Or division III in KCE with credit passes in mathematics and English ii) The student must have credit pass and above in the certificate in the information technology or equivalent qualification may be considered for admission.
