Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences Diploma in BioMedical Laboratory Technology Introduction The Diploma in Biomedical Laboratory Technology (DBLT) is a three year technical course designed so as to equip the trainee with knowledge, attitudes and operative skills necessary for working in medical and veterinary laboratories as technicians; in industries as quality control and analytical technicians and in educational and research institutions as technicians and/or research assistants. In addition the course will impart general knowledge and entrepreneurial awareness that will enable the DBLT holder to contribute positively to society through salaried or self-employment. General Objectives of the Course i. Understand the principles and procedures of laboratory investigations ii. Appreciate the importance of laboratory procedures iii. Collect samples from bulks of materials iv. Collect and record data manually and using computers v. Use appropriate instruments to analyse a given sample vi. Examine specimens using microscopes vii. Store specimens and samples appropriatel viii. Operate laboratory instruments and equipment ix. Perform correct laboratory procedures x. Make correct records of results xi. Observe laboratory hygiene and safety xii. Supervise and design laboratory work xiii. Maintain laboratory equipment and systems in serviceable condition xiv. Organise data for easy interpretation xv. Use acquired knowledge in problem solving Admission Requirements
Course Units Award of Certificate A candidate who satisfy the Board of examiners in all the examinations and other course requirement shall, on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners be awarded a Diploma Certificate in Bio Medical Technology |
