Carnegie African Diaspora Fellow, Prof. Esther Obonyo visits MKU
Prof. Esther Obonyo, from Penn State University (USA), is collaborating with Dr. James Mutuga a faculty in School of Pure and Applied Sciences (SPAS) and MKU’s PI for the grant ($25,000) on a mosquito-proof housing research project. Other MKU collaborators include Dr. Mary Muriuki and Dr. Peter Kirira. The work involves field activities in the Mwea Irrigation Scheme as well as selected sites in Kisumu.
The Fellow arrived at the MKU Thika Campus on July 2nd and was welcomed by the University Management including the VC, Prof. Stanley Waudo and the Dean SPAS, Dr. Mary Muriuki.
In addition to working on the mosquito-proof housing project, Prof. Obonyo has also been actively involved in co-learning activities directed at enhancing the research capacity of faculty members in SPAS. She has also provided mentoring for graduate students.
The outcome of the visit will be packaged into proposals to be submitted to the National Science Foundation (NRF) in the USA and local agencies such as the National Research Fund (NRF).
