Department of Nutrition and Dietetics

Vision of the department
To be an excellent model in health service delivery, research and training in nutrition

Mission of the department
To provide world class training and research in nutrition
Philosophy of the proposed programmes
To impart knowledge and skills in nutrition and dietetics for health promotion and development

Focus of the department
a)    To equip students with analytical critical thinking and problem solving skills in  nutrition practice
b)    To equip students with both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills pertaining to nutrition practice
c)    To produce graduates who can apply effectively and efficiently the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities for the benefit of humanity
d)    To prepare students for progression to higher level of studies in their fields of specialization
e)    To develop basic skills in administration of nutrition projects and programmes.

Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics options:

2.Community
3.Nutrition

Holders of a Bachelor of Science Nutrition and Dietetics or any other related degree from a  University recognized by Kenya Nutritionists and Dietitians Institute (KNDI), Commission for Higher Education and Mount Kenya University. The candidate must have attained a minimum of  Second Class Upper Division or Second Class Lower with three years working experience in a relevant field. Two Academic years.

Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (Accredited by The Kenya Nutritionists and Dietitians’ Institute)      

 

 

 

Be a holder of K C S E certificate with a minimum aggregate of C + and C+ (in Biology or Biological Sciences , English or Kiswahili, Chemistry or Physical Sciences, Mathematics or PhysicsOr
Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics or Food Science from an institution or examination body recognized by the University Senate and Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute and KCSE mean grade of C

 

Direct entry:
8 semesters Ksh. 56,000 per semester

 Diploma entry:
6 semesters Ksh. 65,000 per semester

 

Diploma in Nutrition and
Dietetics


(Accredited by The Kenya Nutritionists and Dietitians’ Institute)  

 

KCSE certificate with a minimum of grade C (plain) plus C in English, Biol- ogy/Biological Sciences Chemistry/ Physical Sciences and C- in any of the following subjects: Physics, Mathematics, Home Science, Agriculture, General Science.
Or
Holder of a certificate in Nutrition and Dietetics or food science from an institution or examinable body recognized by the University Senate and Nutritionists and Dietitians

 8 trimesters Ksh. 32,500 per trimester

 

 

 

Certificate in Nutrition and Dietetics

(Accredited by The Kenya Nutritionists and Dietitians’ Institute)       

 KCSE certificate with a minimum of grade C- plus the following mandatory subjects; C- in English, Biology/Biological sciences and Chemistry/Physical Sciences. Additional subjects includes D+ in any of the following subjects: Physics, Mathematics, Home Science, Agriculture and General Science

 3 trimesters Ksh. 32,500 per trimester
