Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences

Welcome to the Medical Laboratory Sciences Department at Mount Kenya University (MKU). The department is in the School of Health Sciences.

MKU was the first private university in Kenya to offer Medical Laboratory Sciences as an undergraduate and diploma program.
The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences focuses on production of leaders in training, research and innovation in the field of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Technology, other applied sciences and health-related enterprise development to support the MKU mission and to suit the needs of a dynamic world.

The BSc. And Diploma Medical Laboratory Sciences are a professional course under the umbrella and regulation of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB). KMLTTB was established by an Act of Parliament to regulate Medical Laboratory Sciences training and practice in Kenya.

The department is designed to promote the MKU vision which is to be an African role model of excellence in science and technology education and training

Mission
The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences focuses on providing world class teaching, research and innovative extension services for sustainable scientific and technological development in Laboratory Sciences.

Programs Offered.

Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences(BSc.MLS)

(Approved by Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Board)

 

K C S E mean  grade  of C + and C in mathematics/Physics, C+ in Biology / Chemistry, English/Kiswahili;
Or
KCSE C and Higher national diploma/ Diploma in medical laboratory sciences. Diploma holders must be registered with KMLTTB.

8 semesters for direct entry at Ksh. 81,825 per semester

5 semesters
for diploma holders
Ksh. 60,000 per semester

Diploma in Medical Laboratory  Sciences (DMLS) Registered by KMLTTB         At least KCSE mean grade C plain, C- (minus) in mathematics/physics,C (plain) in biology/chemistry and in English/Kiswahili.  9 trimesters Ksh. 35, 550 per trimester
Diploma in Bio-Medical
Laboratory  Sciences (DBMLS)      
 At least KCSE mean grade C- (minus) plus C- (minus) in mathematics/physics, biology/chemistry and C (plain) in English/Kiswahili or certificate in medical laboratory technology  9 trimesters Ksh. 35, 550 per trimester
