Department of Animal Health & Production

Department Overview

Opportunities in Animal Science
Animal resource industry in Kenya provide 10% of Kenya GDP, while this is a significant contribution to the Kenyan economy, animal industries are challenged by issues relating to diseases, poor feeding, animal comfort and well being, access to global markets, sustainable agricultural systems and environmental stewardship.

Currently, the Department of Animal Health and Production at Mount Kenya University offers education and research for the safe and economical production of animal food without compromising the environment or endangering the health and well being and farm animals and farm communities. The department provides educational leadership through high-quality courses, research and extension programs to enhance human capital and ensure farming communities benefit from these.

We have a strong tradition of training outstanding students in animal health, animal production and related fields, and welcome prospective students who are interested in our programs and want to contribute to our mission. Our graduates have excelled well both in private and public sectors

Mission and Vision
